Girls on the Run!
Girls on the Run starts this Friday, 3/29! Practices will be weekly on Fridays from 4-5:30 pm. Thursdays will be the rain/backup day. Please note that this is different than the information on the official GOTR registration website. Practice will be only once per week, on Fridays, with practices happening on Thursdays instead of Fridays only if needed b/c of bad weather on Fridays. In that case, you will receive an email (or text) from us as soon as we know the practice will be changing. Fingers crossed that there won’t be many stormy Fridays!
Pickup and drop off will be at the back of the school, near the parking lot. Those in Afterschool will be brought to the back by the Afterschool staff.
New this year - if your child doesn’t currently attend Afterschool on Fridays but you would like them to from 2:50 until 4 pm when practice begins, Mr. Kevin from Afterschool said there are spots available. There is a sliding scale fee for families. Please email Kevin ASAP to get your child enrolled if you are interested in Friday Afterschool. klewis@bsdvt.org
Please make sure your participant has comfortable shoes/running sneakers, a water bottle, is wearing clothes appropriate to run in (and possibly get a bit dirty as we also spend time on the back field that might be muddy). SA/Afterschool will provide snacks for the participants. If your child has particular snack needs, please send them with a snack of their choice.
GOTR is meant to be a safe and supportive environment for all participants. In our first practice together, the group will co-create and write down team expectations which will be referenced throughout the season. It is very important for the wellbeing of all participants that caregivers are aware of their role and responsibility of supporting expectations of behavior at practice. If behaviors occur that are not in alignment with GOTR policies and/or team expectations (like respect for all, staying in the approved practice area, etc.), coaches will work with the participant(s) and their caregiver(s) to help better understand behaviors, and to ensure a safe, joyful and positive experience for everyone.
Please arrive on time for pick up. We can only dismiss your participant to individuals identified as on her registration form. If you need to update how your child should be released or add authorized individuals to pick up your child, please send one of us an email.
The safety of our team is our priority. Our team may continue to meet outdoors even if there is precipitation or lower temperatures. Your participant should be prepared for every session with weather appropriate clothing and additional layers. We may need to cancel due to extreme weather, we will be in touch as soon as we know that is the case.
Our team will be participating in the celebratory 5K on Saturday June 1st at the Champlain Valley Fairgrounds in Essex. Every participant is strongly encouraged to have a 5K Buddy for the event, but it does not need to be you. More details on 5K Buddy info will be available as the season progresses. You do not need to register to run, walk, or roll across the finish line in order to join in on the fun – all are welcome to join and cheer from the sidelines without joining in the 5K, too!
We will be sending you practice details and program updates over the course of the season. We are excited to get to know your child this season and are looking forward to a great season together.
With gratitude - the SA GOTR Coaches,
Valerie Esposito (Zara, 4th grade) 908-930-8333
Tracey Dengler (Cassidy, 4th grade) 802-355-8349
Emily Garrett (Rudy, 4th grade) 802-862-3591
Samantha Tilton (Lucinda, 5th grade) 802-355-8349
