SA is on Town Meeting TV
The Flynn is partnering with Burlington’s Sustainability Academy and the Burlington School District to create the first annual Burlington Trout Parade.
Create watershed-themed puppets and flags for the first annual Burlington Trout Parade! These free workshops invite community members of all ages to work with Janice Walrafen, co-founder of Montpelier’s All Species Day Parade, and printmaker, muralist and activist Uncle Erok to make parade art that celebrates the Lake Champlain Watershed. Participants will make art for the Trout Parade and will learn block printing and puppet making techniques.
Come for the whole time or stop in for an hour. We hope that all workshop participants will join the parade, but this is not a requirement for participation.

Happy Lunar New Year Jan 29 – Feb 16th
Lunar New Year has been celebrated for more than 3,000 years. It is a 2 week celebration that marks the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year, according to the lunar solar calendar.
At the beginning of the festival, there may be fireworks. Families may decorate windows with red paper cuttings and adorn doors with couplets expressing hopes and wishes for the new year. Cleaning the house is a tradition. Lunar New Year is a time to feast and to visit family members. Depending on the region, there also could be a Lantern Festival that marks the end of the celebration.
Happy Lunar New Year to all who celebrate!
NO SCHOOL, MLK Day – January 20
On Monday, January 20, we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. There will be no school on that day.
Dr. King was a great figure of American and Black history. Martin Luther King, Jr. helped to lead the peaceful fight for African Americans to live with equal rights in the United States through marches, nonviolent protests, and powerful speeches.
Dr. King was a hero for us all — big and small. Read more here from the National Museum of African American History & Culture.
How can you observe MLK Jr. Day?
- Check out these books from the NYPL
- MLK Day is a day of service – pick a cause or charity with your family and try to help the community.
