Bio:
I’m Jules Norman. An elementary teacher for eighteen years, I’ve been privileged to teach literacy and math in the primary grades for most of that time. During my two years as a Sustainability Coach at SA, however, I was fortunate to work closely with the fifth grade team and have been eager to teach fifth grade ever since!
All fifth graders work with Mr. Fitz and with me, regardless of their homeroom assignment. Mr. Fitz teaches math while I teach reading and writing. Mr. Fitz and I will team teach our Education for Sustainability class. I’m currently a grad student in UVM’s Education for Sustainability certificate program and am passionate about meaningful place-based learning. Fifth graders will build relationships and develop critical thinking skills as they explore these questions throughout the year:
- Who is in our community?
- How are we interdependent?
- What makes a community sustainable?
- How can my choices help me and my community thrive?
When I’m not teaching or studying I love to go trail running with my dog, work in my garden with my husband, and play board games with my sons.
